I once came across an article about a 700 year old handbag, which is believed to be the oldest bag in history. It is supposed that the bag originated from Northern Iraq and was crafted around the 1300’s.
This masterfully detailed piece made of brass, silver, and gold was put on display at the Courtauld Gallery in London two years ago. Call me crazy, but this work of art uncannily resembles a clutch.
The skilled craftsmen of the 1300’s got it right then, and Ralph Lauren is getting it right now in our modern age with the creation of his latest accessory, The RL Clutch.
This is probably one of the most sleek and sophisticated clutches since the Hermès Jige and Yves Saint Laurent Monogramme. It is beautiful, classy, and timeless with clean lines and one simplistic detail, the gold-tone logo; which I say is in no way overdone or gaudy.
This is a generous sized clutch with dimensions at 10″l, 5″ h, and 1 1/2″ d, perfect for necessities. Quite fortunately, this happens to come in only one size. I love having options as much as the next person, but when it comes to all of the different sizes available in the exact same bag, it really does make it hard to choose. It took me months to decide on the size of the Marc Jacobs Baroque bag, eventually I went with the XL, and the colour I wanted was almost sold out due to my indecision. Incidentally, I just had a talk with my sister yesterday about more being lost by indecision, than wrong decision, she was mulling over a shoe purchase!
There is only one slip pocket to speak of inside the clutch, but the fact that all of these clutches come with an engraved Ralph Lauren compact mirror and matching shoulder straps, far outweigh any negatives one might find with the lack of organization.
After mentioning the ease of only one size to choose from in this bag, there is another problem; there are so many colours and textures to choose from!
If I was to choose a favourite I would have to go with the Black Python, I am overly fond of sleek snakeskin textures There will be so many more colours and textures to come I am sure. I am going to go ahead and peg this as an “It Bag”.
My final word on the subject is…….this clutch is perfection!
The colour-blocking trend is one that can seem overwhelming if you do not know where to start. Mixing bold and vibrant colours to make up an entire outfit is certainly not for everyone. The easiest way to get a chic look without feeling like you are overdoing it is by colour-blocking bold accessories against a plain black dress.
One of my favourite colour-blocking combos is cobalt blue and bright pink. Jewel tones are a more subdued way to go if you do not like uber bright colours.
What do you think of colour-blocking?
Yesterday was my birthday, and a wonderful one it was at that! I started the day off doing absolutely nothing. It was my birthday after all, and I should be allowed a day of complete R&R right?
My husband got me my favourite gourmet cupcakes. There were actually more of them, but I started eating them before I took the photo.
I got to go on a bit of a shopping spree! When in doubt my husband just gets me gift cards. My mom even got me a Sephora gift card this year!
I love this for my body on those dry Winter days, but you can actually use this on your face as well. I have started using it as a “sealer” after all of my other skincare treatments in the evening. It is just the best all-purpose cream to have around.
This is my favourite makeup setting spray. It is alcohol free and really works to make your makeup last on a hot day, which we have been getting plenty of those lately.
I can’t say that I have tried every facial oil out there, but I have tried a few and this one is hands down my favourite. It soaks into my skin better than any other one I have tried, and it makes my skin just glow. It does not leave a terribly greasy after feel like most facial oils tend to do. It smells great and has yet to clog my pores. I really cannot say enough about this oil.
My new favourite serums are officially the ones from NUFace. They soak in quickly and I am seeing some great results so far. They are not pore clogging and are fragrance, alcohol, and paraben free. You do not get a great deal of product, but they are thin in consistency so it does not take much to spread a good amount onto your face.
This is the perfect shimmery white shadow. I use this for an array of highlighting purposes.
This is fast becoming my new favourite powder. The texture is amazing with buildable light to medium coverage. The ivory shade matches my skin perfectly. It seriously does not feel heavy or look cakey at all.
Living Proof recently reformulated their revitalizing spray with a heat protectant, so naturally I had to try it. I love it. It dries instantly and my air does not feel fried after using it.
After years and years of using my trusted Clinique toner, I have decided to switch to this one. It is alcohol free like the Clinique one, which was really the deciding factor, but there are so many other benefits to this one. Namely there is no silicones! I will elaborate on that in a later post. If you are looking for a pretty perfect toner, give this one a try.
I got a sample size of this pencil in my Sephora birthday gift, and I love it! It stays on for quite awhile, and I love the colour. It is the perfect nude rosy pink.
This is my favourite YLBB lipstick. I do not like ultra glossy finishes, they just do not last long and I loathe when my hair sticks to my lips. This gives just enough sheer pigment for me when applied lightly.
This lip polish is currently my favourite after the Mac lip scrub was discontinued. It smells like brown sugar, vanilla, and lemon. I find myself wanting to eat it sometimes.
So, remember that post I did about the runway Rebecca Minkoff Rylan tote? I did say that I wanted it for my birthday and I believe I mentioned somewhere that I was willing to shamelessly grovel to my husband about it. Well………he surprised me! He did get the black one, and I am so glad he did. It will go with so much more than the lavender shade would have. The leather is so soft and so on par with Rebecca Minkoff quality. It is an eye-catcher for sure. The details are amazing. The fringe is well done and not messy looking.
We went to dinner at one of my favourite sushi restaurants, and they took forever serving us this time. I ate it so fast I didn’t even think about taking photos. I had so many dear friends and family members there, it was wonderful. Those amazing people are truly what made it so special. Best birthday yet!
Some of you may remember my recent post about the Coach Semi-Annual Sale about a week ago. Well today I got a package!
Here she is! I decided to get the Gramercy Satchel in Mink. I am loving the croc-embossing, it makes it timeless. This is the perfect neutral to wear with anything. It is a warm grey, but depending on what you are wearing it with, it can look like a light taupe brown. I love the turn-lock closures, they are secure yet make the bag very easy to get into. The hang-tag on the front actually has a flap that flips open to reveal a little information card, you know, in case you lose it and someone finds it. (I think I would die of shame if I did lose it though!) This does come with a shoulder strap, but I never use them. I love the size. I actually thought it would be larger, but it is the perfect in between size. Not too big, nor too small. It fits all of my stuff and more. The turn-locks on the sides come open so you can expand and fit more things. It will not fit a laptop, but it will accommodate a smaller tablet when the sides are expanded.
She is just so beautiful! The only complaint I would have with this bag is that the leather is a bit smooth and more matte in finish. Aesthetically that is not a bad thing, it just means it is more likely to show scratches if you are not careful. I love it so much though, it will very easily transition between all seasons. This will pair beautifully with all of your whites, yellow, light pinks, and light blues for summer; then on to your blacks, burgundys, navys, and dark greens for winter. So versatile. I do believe this one is still on the Coach website for now, so if you are wanting it you should consider purchasing soon as they tend to sell out quickly.
What do you think of my new Gramercy? Did you get anything at the Coach sale yet?
If ever whimsy was an art form, which it is, Charlotte Olympia would have it down to a “T”. Her shoes and accessories are just so delightfully fanciful. I have kept my eye on this London based designer since shortly after her brand launched in 2008. I always look forward to seeing what she comes up with next!
First let’s talk about her shoes. Imagine what the offspring of a Picasso painting and a pair of Jimmy Choo’s would look like. That is how I would describe most of her shoes designs. There are others with a more subtle makeup, but the vivid ones are what she is known for. Just enjoy the eye candy!
These belong at the most elegant of garden parties!
Reminiscent of Dipping Dots, these call for a red silk dress!
If I could get married all over again, these would be my wedding shoes!
These are vixenous! Yes, I made up that word. I just love that little flash of red you get on the bottom of the sole.
Never has there ever been a shoe that was more meant to wear on Valentine’s day………until these. They are my favourite so far from her newest collection.
With a blue Turquoise statement necklace….that’s all I have to say.
Now for the bags! She does some amazing clutch designs. They are all pretty much of a solid construction, mostly acrylic.
With the garden party shoes, I know!
This is her popular Pandora style. It gets new prints so often. This design represents the epitome of colour blocking!
I would wear all black and just let that pompom on top be my “flash of bold colour”.
Who doesn’t want a clutch with a kitty cat face on it?
What do you think of the latest from Charlotte Olympia?
